'DFA 1979'

I was not as interested in watching Death From Above 1979 (DFA 1979) as the man and the friends were. So I was ultra pleased when Caracal announced that they would be opening for DFA 1979. I like Caracal and wouldn't miss them!

As usual, the thunderstorm went apocalyptic and flooded all of Singapore that late afternoon. The thunderstorm managed to peter down in time for us to go to the gig without being too late. Doors opened at 7.30pm. We got there at 7.45pm.

Caracal was only five minutes into their set when we got there. Whewww. I'm such a fan girl of Caracal. I was very pleased that I got to hear more songs played live from their newest album 'Effigies' (August 2024). Sure, I hear them on Spotify anywhere, but nothing beats listening to them live and watching them play. That's how real music is made. I love 'Burn'!

It was pretty fun watching Jesse Keeler on bass and synthesizers, and Sebastian Grainger on drums and vocals. But I have no idea of their songs or albums or whatever. I didn't do any sort of homework before the show beyond watching them play on KEXP earlier in the year. Obviously I didn't recognize a single song. LOL I would have to check out their setlist only after the show remember what I heard.

The Canadian rock duo managed to make some massive sounds, with effects of course. There were some fun tunes. They totally kept the audiences entertained for close to two hours. Towards the end of the show, the mosh pit got going in earnest. The man and the friends are huge fans. If they were younger, they would have dove right into that mosh pit too. The audiences were really thrilled. Heh.

I love it that gigs now simply go on without much bother about dates/days in that sense. Tonight's show was on a Sunday. People still showed up. The best part, gigs don't start an hour late from the stated timings anymore. They pretty much begin within 30 minutes of doors and are all fairly punctual. While the friends had beers, I decided to pass on alcohol. I had a 6am start the next day, and a strength-training session. Even a pint of beer wouldn't be prudent.
