Sentosa GrillFest 2025

Since we're on the island, it's not much effort to toddle over to the opening weekend of the Sentosa GrillFest. This is the 8th edition, and it's our first visit. I've not bothered with checking out the earlier editions.

There're over 35 vendors serving up all sorts of grilled noms. The smokers, pits and grills were out in full force. I was in awe of the chefs and brands' commitment to grilling. It's crazy hot. I hope they keep hydrated and have an easy access to the toilets. The grills fire up and serve diners at 4pm. We went at 6pm. It was still super bright and the sun's rays were searing.

The weather has been unbearable, but I'm thankful not to have thunderstorms disrupt this staycation and have Choya all anxious. I didn't mind sweating it out at GrillFest. It was hot, but there were also plenty of gigantic fans placed all around by the organizers. Excellent. That made the humidity and heat almost tolerable.

We managed to get small portions of many items. The husband really enjoyed the beef cheek and brisket by Jett Barbecue. Their mash was superb. He had not tried anything by this brand till tonight. I really liked the grilled seabass with nasi lemak served up by Mount Faber Bamboo Nasi Lemak. I wisely avoided prawns and lobsters and all manner of shellfish.

Oddly, I didn't take much alcohol. It was too hot, and if I did more alcohol, I'd end up with a splitting headache. I stuck to two cups of gin and tonic, and then it was iced water all the way. That was a wise move. I didn't lose sleep that night from too much alcohol in the system, and I didn't get a scratchy throat from all that char.

The dog really didn't mind the bit of setting sun and sea breeze. She also had loads of iced water and plenty of pee. It was crowded, but not that bad tonight, so she did all right in this environment.
