Mee Siam at Marie's Lapis Cafe

Went to brunch at Marie's Lapis Cafe at Bedok North Street 3. We love it that they welcome dogs at their sheltered outdoor tables. (There are only two tables of 4 chairs each.) There were pre-dawn rains and it was a supberly cool morning at 24°C, which made for a most comfortable brunch outdoors.

I was there for the mee siam. That was delicious. But do note that Malay mee siam and Nyonya mee siam taste significantly different — because of the rempah. Malay mee siam tends to be more robust. I like both iterations, so no issues.

The table also ordered a serving of chap chye, and one-dish meals that come with rice — ayam buah keluak, and beef rendang. These dishes are flavorful, but not fiery-chilli-hot. It'd be super suitable for people who don't much chilli. We requested for sambal belachan and got three portions in the cute sauce dishes. Our friends don't take the fiery-spicy chilli. The husband and I do, and demolished it all.

If you have a firm date and timing, do book a table at the little restaurant, otherwise you might be disappointed. The walk-in queue can be as long as a 45-minute wait. As it is with small bistros, their logistics aren't the smoothest, especially on packed weekends when the kitchen is overwhelmed.
