When we walked by El Borracho at Tanjong Pagar, we didn't know who ran it. We popped for a casual dinner on night at 8.30pm; plenty of outdoor seats available. I grinned. Ahhh... food would be good. This is Chef Yasuo Watanabe's new venture after AO Ringo at Orchard Plaza.
El Borracho quietly opened on Tras Link earlier this year. I do appreciate its outdoor seats. Being on the ground floor of Orchid Hotel at Tras Link meant that it's mostly sheltered from the rain. Don't dress up if you plan on sitting outdoors. It's hot, and the exhaust also comes out of there, so you will end up smelling like grease and burnt pans. I'll deal because, dog.
The octopus and potato were delicious, although I'm not sure about the bottom swimming in oil, even if it's olive oil. Had a small pan of squid ink paella. That was superb. Two hungry people could have that, or three to four very small eaters of carbs. We finished off with an Angus rump cap. Noms.
Tonight was breezy cool after a whole day of rain. But nobody bothered sitting outdoors. So Choya occupied the area like a boss. I like the casual ambience. Bistro-like restaurants that I can take the dog to are always a hit with me. Also, Spanish food with highballs? I'm all for it.
