I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese food. The dishes I really like are very hard to find in Singapore. Somehow, the restaurants don't offer it on their menu, or they can't do it well.
It feels as though every Vietnamese restaurant here offers just phở and bánh mi, hotpot and bún chả things. I can do bún chả but I'm not a fan of the rest. Where are my mì Quảng and bánh bèo?
The friends wanted to do an impromptu meet since we were all in the South Beach area. We decided to stop by Saigon King at South Beach Tower since I had Choya with me. Its sheltered al fresco area didn't mind dogs chilling out, so that worked well for us.
The table had a number of things like vegetables with fermented dunno-what, and also a whole grilled chicken which thankfully arrived cute and small and it was quite delicious. For carbs, nobody wanted rice or noodles, but I ordered a plate of bánh bèo. The flavors were fine the batter isn't the best. It's a bit... too much flour, and very thick. Ah well. It wasn't eeky, so I simply ate them.
I did enjoy my super thick after-lunch coffee. I intended to have it before lunch, but obviously at the rate it dripped, it became the post-lunch shot of caffeine. Hahaha.
