dont mean to sound so sua-gu - but i didnt even know fresh ones were available in singapore!!! only in cold storage is it? (as u know, i usu go to the heartlands-type of supermarkets)
clever girl! u got the brown streaked ones! those are the sweetest! did u buy some green ones to keep for a while till they turn brown to eat later in the week?
carrie: don't buy the fresh brown ones. those are still sour and need a little honey to make it easy on the throat. buy the fresh green ones streaked/stained with brown. they're not rotting. they're just ripe and so very sweet.
gerbera: superbly so. funny thing is- i don't like them as dessert. i prefer dates to be used. i like figs as fruit.
nope. not any cold storage will have. can try Cold Storage Gourmet @ 5th Avenue or NTUC Fairprice Finest @ Bt Timah Plaza, Jasons Gourmet Grocer and Paragon Marketplace, Tanglin Marketplace.
even so, the supermarkets don't have it always. they will have dried ones. and they might have the fresh brown (sour) ones. but rarely these green ones i like.
it's actually the friendly grocers in small shops in the neighborhood estates in katong, serangoon, greenwood area, holland, etc, those dotted around the island who might actually bring them in once in a while for their regular customers.
we also get ours directly from the supplier. so it's like among the friends, we will take a couple of cartons each. along with vanilla pods and stuff like that we can't get in the supermarkets. like underground movement like that. heh.
I never had fresh ones.. plenty of dried ones though.. heheh!! but since you say it tastes like honey.. i've gotta find myself some fresh ones.. die, die gotta try.. ;)
