Flowers Say It All

You know, I never bothered sucking up to the man's mom. I was at best, polite and civil.

But the mom's such a sweetie. Sometimes I think people take advantage of that, and I get all protective. I can't help but slowly think of her as I go about doing daily stuff.

After a while, I cease to think of doing things for her as 'sucking up'. I do them because I genuinely want to.

She loves flowers and plants. Nary a week pass by without freshly cut flowers in the flat.

As often as I can, I'll pop over to the market to buy her fresh flowers and the sorts to pretty up the interiors.

The gem is, she doesn't expect, or demand flowers. Whenever I buy flowers home, I get scolded for buying too much! Wahahahah. She always sincerely wants to pay me for the purchases.

Of course I never accept. How could I?! She does so much for me. And I do so little for her. Anyway, on some days, I use her son's money! *cackle*

It's a very simple formula. If it makes the man's mom happy, it usually makes me happy.

lms: heee. :) no fancy wrapping though. just plain paper. they all go into vases once they get home! i guess the man's glad that there's no fighting like in those HK dramas that he catches me watching sometimes and teases me endlessly abt it!

yuling: your MIL sounds lovely! see, nice MILs get nice DILs like you! it makes family relations harmonious. hmmm..flowering plant. will see all. we all don't have green fingers! that's why sticking to 'instant' plants/flowers for now!

Living under the same roof, you have to give a little, take a little. I lived with my mil for 5 years and I know just how hard it is to remain "friction and conflict-free". A little gesture just goes a long long way in maintaining harmony in a household, especially in somebody else's household. And I am sure these flowers brighten you up just as much as it does your man's mom. I LOVE FLOWERS! :)

lucky you. if the MIL is unreasonable, then nothing one does is ever good enough or right. so many MILs like to nitpick. eioow.

i prefer green leavy plants, so we have plants in everyroom in the flat.
flowers, only when i'm in extremely good mood! cos don't like to see flowers dying after a few days.
and then it's a hassle to throw it a way and change water :p

It's a small gesture but I think she appreciates it alot because it goes to show you knew what she likes. The problem with buying things for others is buying the right thing, not that it has to be expensive.

dr: agreed. it's always about whether one is thinking about the other sincerely. :)
