I'm not much of a classical pianist. In all those piano exams, the comments said that I was "technically proficient, but lacking in passion". Ouch.
Of course lah. I'm the type of student who only learnt the skill, but never really acquired it. I need to play with a score in sight. Contemporary sappy ballads are great for me. I can play all the songs by MLTR. And oh, I can't do improvisation.
In contrast, the man's mom is an excellent pianist. She plays Mozart and Bach particularly well. I always enjoy listening to her play.
When no one was home the other evening, I took out Liszt's Première Année: Suisse of Années de Pèlerinage. Flipped to Vallée d'Obermann and formed the first chords. I went so slow that it didn't sound like anything familiar. My sight-reading really sucks. It was terrible! Yuck. It's going to take me ages to play the piece with a decent level of proficiency.

i think you'll cry if i make you play schumann. short but torturous.
see. you're that terrible. it took me 3min to figure out what the heck is MLTR.
MLTR ? Eeww!
ehhh... MLTR is very different from Liszt leh. it's going to take a bit of practice to play that whole suite....
goodness. you just have to pick the longest piece of the lot to play lor! listen to it on youtube.... then you know...osmosis or something? =))
You can't be as bad as I am.. muhahaha!! you should see me .. on the piano.. PB said.. i sux so bad..!! muahhaha!

mars bar + JM: in my defense, MLTR is EASY to play!!!! EASY to sight-read!
jazzgal: i also say.
fern: boo. i am. well, my playing doesn't sound anywhere near that at all. yet.
mamabok: u cannot be as bad as me lah.
Oh my! You and i are on the same boat, can only play with score!! haha! =p
You have the piano at home? I left mine my parents' place. I do miss it sometimes.
jemej: heeeeeeee. yes i have the piano at this home! no parents' home to go back to already. :)
You certainly put me to shame. I recall that I started taking my first piano when I was in Pre-U back then coz when I was little, I refused to take my mum's advice to take up such lesson which is beneficial for life. :P Mine was very short-life. I took practical lesson till Grade 2 only and only sat for theory level 1 and stop after that. My teacher said that my fingers ain't flexible. :P
Haha. I'm like you but probably worse. I passed Grade 5 but I don't have the talent. I can't improvise and I need a score in front of me to play.
iceaster: now still can learn wat. take it as finger exercise!
coboypb: never mind. so long we know what those scores mean can already! ;P i'm sure we can play 'winkle twinkle little star' in many amazing permutations. that's great!
