Today, the man woke up at the crack of dawn and busied himself in the kitchen.
He made me minced pork porridge and lovingly packed it for me to take to work. Grumbled a little because I wouldn't be able to eat it till 11am. And I was miffed that I didn't have a microwave oven in the office to heat up the food. Well, technically, there's a lousy microwave all the way up on the 6th floor. But I didn't feel like walking. So it seemed as though I'd have to eat cold porridge. And cold porridge is NOT nice.
At 9.30am, I finally had some time to myself. And I opened the tub the man had so carefully packed. It smelt really good. Took the first mouthful. It was still warm. My tastebuds reeled from the flavors. It was a damn good tub of porridge. I finished it all.
I really really really like the porridge.
I don't know how the man churned that out in the pot. He doesn't do Asian food usually. This is only his second attempt at making porridge. And he spectacularly succeeded. His msn message popped up just then to ask me if I had a chance to eat it while it was still warm. I replied "Yes! It was a good one!" and nothing more. I didn't tell him. But I was actually rather choked with emotion when I finished that tub of porridge.
My grandfather was a wonderful cook. I believe he's the only one who loves me most in the whole wide world. He used to cook me minced pork porridge every Sunday. And I miss him dearly.
Don't know how the man did it. I don't know where he took the recipe from. But his minced pork porridge looked and tasted exactly the way my grandfather used to make it for me.

wow. how on earth does a man pluck that out of your mind?! seriously now.
who would have thought? minced pork porridge eh?!
The tale of the minced pork porridge, in which the imp learns of the language that is the food and/of love.
Yum.
The End.
ah... you are well loved.
i can tell you how the man is able to cook you such damn good porridge. he cooked it from his heart, out of pure love for you.
That may sound corny but it's true!! how else a person like me who is hopeless in the kitchen can whip out delicious food for my family? It was sheer willpower, preparing the food with all the love in the world. Food prepared this way always taste better than good.
I'm sure your grandfather loved you tons my dear. And the porridge you just had? Was also made with love =)

He's so so sweet you know, imp.. and your grandpa sounds so lovely *hugz*. I wish i had grandfather too.
i remember your grandfather's food. i remember that sunday morning when all of us crashed at your place. he merrily woke us up at 9am- in our drunken glory and alcohol breath to have porridge.
funnily, i didn't puke. the hot porridge chased away the hangover!
