Went out to Indochine Waterfront to catch Jimmy Barnes. We aren't fans or anything. We're familiar with Cold Chisel. We didn't really know alot of his songs. But we thought it would be a good night out for beer and music, aussie-style. Good vibe for the peeps heading to Melbourne for Big Day Out.
Jimmy Barnes brought along his daughers and son on this gig. His daughers did back-up vocals and the son was quite the firebrand on the drums. Jimmy Barnes' still got it. And his band was air-tight. It was touted as an accoustic set. But we were pleasantly surprised that the set-up was for a full electric gig. The organizers definitely did not stinge on the stage and sound gear.
However, the highlight for us was this one guitarist. His rifts were blindingly good. They were evocative, down and dirty rock and roll. We found him so so familiar and racked our brains hard to think where we might have seen him. Then the boys realized they saw him last March in Austin playing with You Am I.
The guitarist on stage now was Davey Lane! Double wow. It was such a pleasure seeing him in live. After the show, we went to see his pedalboard. Heh. Held outdoors, the evening was beautifully breezy. With my hair up and wearing jeans with a thin silk top, I didn't even perspire!
