When the Mosaic announcements came on in melodious Thai, I grinned. This was a Modern Dog gig alright. Every conversation around us was in Thai. Of course there were Singaporeans in the audience. But Thais formed the majority and they showed their appreciation to a slice of familiar music in a foreign land.
It was a very cosy accoustic setting. But it was kinda strange that everything was DI-ed. There were no accoustic amps to buffer for that warm tone. While the beat and rhythm was there, I couldn't say the same for the sound. It was just, average. I swore they would have sounded alot better if the band was on their usual electric guitars.
Of course everyone was enthusiastic. Super! I was totally amused to see the vigilant ushers up in arms telling off people (politely) firmly not to sneak in photographs on their mini digital cameras and cellphones.
Tonight, for some strange reason the band's ballads sounded better than their rock numbers. What I heard tonight sounded.....pop-ish.
