Such A Great Friday Night

Despite the S$14 a shot (a steal!) Chivas Regal 18 y.o at Fujiya and Miyagi's free-standing gig, I confess that the only song I liked for the set was one of their two encore songs- Collar BoneThe friends gave raving reviews to The Roots that happened concurrently at the concert hall. I kinda half-wished that I sat in at that instead. Except that hip-hop wasn't really my thing. We were all really waiting for the 11pm concert. We heard a crap foreign band at the outdoor stage. Super emo and super cannot-make-it. I could think of so many Singapore bands who would have far surpassed their music anytime.

Sondre Lerche (pronounced as LER-kay) was awesome. He's so young and he's got such amazing talent and a great voice. I swear he's one of the most versatile guitarists around.
We were blown apart by his mastery and dexterity on the strings. The boys were going ga-ga over his Guild, Gretsch and Gibson J-45.

He played songs from his earlier albums which were softer. They were happy, sad, bittersweet- poignant folk/pop rock. He also played his recent songs which had infused indie rock sounds into heavy angst and jubilance.
His band members were equally stellar. They were so so tight together.

The crowd didn't exactly warm up till an hour into the concert. It was at the last couple of songs that everyone stood up to jive along.
Yet another good night of music for the soul. Bliss.
