Hard Copies Still The Way To Go

Submitting a copy of the identity card to my Finance department to fulfil requirements for some claims and such is de rigeur. For a certain payment to be GIRO-ed to a bank account, the Finance department also requested for a photocopy of the bank book. Fair enough. But the problem is, we don't use bank books nowadays! I too, don't own a bank book! Everything is done online!

I called the department. The disbelief could be heard clearly over the phone. "How can you not have a bank book?!"

So, I asked what else could be used for verification if we didn't own a bank book.

"Oh. Maybe can submit a photocopy of the front and back of your ATM card?"

And what would that prove?! The absurdity of it all. I had this urge to storm upstairs to scream at some humans. "I tell you what- I'll print the e-statement or whatever and submit that okay?"

"Should be okay lah." came the skeptical reply.

paper statements are common nowadays and can be substituted for a bank book.

no need to give finance the whole statement. just the header to show your name and account number. that is all they need. basically to verify they are paying to the right person and right account number.

queenie: hehehe. maybe!

lms: oh dear.

karmac: i'd hate to queue up to update bank book! wouldn't online be so much more convenient?

andrew: very painful for the rest of us u mean?

findingmylazy: well, if you're not employed by the company, yes, i guess. ooh. we have receipts. but receipts are proof of expenditure. we need to prove that the valid bank account actually belongs to whoever we say we belong to. so it's a pain whenever we have to process things for our first-time freelance consultants.

kuroshironeko: cannot. because even i don't use paper statements anymore. it's all entirely online in this case. if just show name and a/c number, i can also anyhow do up. so my kiasi and kiasu finance wants the full printout.

fern + elaine: we call them anal and not progressive. but what to do? they are doing their jobs to ensure a tight eye. so can't fault them.
