There're so many gigs happening in February and March till I've to tweak travel plans to be in town to catch all of them! My first quarter budget for alcohol is certainly going into buying tickets. We kicked off our 2012 gig schedule with The People's Party (TPP) at *SCAPE.
I guess audiences were divided and tonight, many chose to go to Fort Canning where 'Foster The People' played. I ummm...only know that one song- 'Pumped Up Kicks'. Between that and TPP's headlining 'Metronomy', I've no idea which one has more ahemmm...hipster cred. Anyway, it was cool to have some of the friends attend the Fort Canning gig and also be able to check out their updates for the happenings that we weren't able to see firsthand.
I saw a couple of plastic beer cups that went flying at the front. Since I wisely stood far away, I didn't care. During Metronomy's set, I was rather wary of this couple holding up a column of half empty cups and flailing around. Many gave them a wide berth. The woman managed to pour beer on her friend's hair. Clearly, the friend didn't mind. Muahahahahah.

Enjoyed opening band of the day, Singapore's 'Monster Cat'. Malaysian duo 'Tenderfist' is not a stranger to Singapore, but I've never seen them. Quite thrilled that the duo is pretty good. Their fairly upbeat electro-pop was dance-able. It was fun.
While there's beer (the only choice of Chang) at the venue, it's smack in the middle of the city and we could wander out for fruit juices, coffee, light bites and dinner. The convenience is certainly welcomed, together with the indoor air-conditioning to buffer us from the humidity outside. The nice cool weather of November and December is definitely dissipating fast. The sound system is more than decent. Nothing has been compromised. However, early birds today were treated to an unwelcome display of disorganized mess at the door. When doors should have opened at 3pm, it didn't. It finally opened at 3.45pm and the first band went on at 4pm or so. Tsk tsk.
'The Jezabels' were amazing live. Thank goodness they don't just sound fabulous over a stereo system. The band was tight, had great energy, and of course Hayley Mary's vocals are always mindblowing. So glad that I ditched dinner plans to rush back to catch them. Awesome. Onward to Day 2 of TPP. More exciting sounds to hear.
