Day 2 :: The People's Party

'Noughts and Exes', Hong Kong.

Like I said, gigs aplenty in Singapore. If you weren't at Fort Canning for 'Simple Plan' tonight, then you would have been at *SCAPE for 'Bombay Bicycle Club'. If you weren't at either, then you would have been at The Pigeonhole for the launch of 'The Midas Sessions' by 'Lunarin'. Some Sundays are awesome, like today...we were spoilt for choice.

The wonderful thing about festivals- the different genres of music available for everyone. Pick and choose what you like! We strolled in early for 'Muon' who opened the day with their electronic and ambient sounds. Of course we were in time to watch our favorite Hong Kong band 'Noughts and Exes', and hear their two new songs. The dancing started from there.

More bands and DJ sets came on. Then many of the friends came in for the party. Woooohoooo! As the sun set, 'In Each Hand A Cutlass' played a soaring 40 minutes, drumming up the mood and the pace for the rest of the evening. Their gigantic soundscapes work best in large venues. I wonder how they'd pare down for an acoustic gig at The Pigeonhole in February. 'The Naked and Famous' seemed to have improved so much since many last saw them at SXSW. We couldn't resist doing the hipster moves to their music tonight which also consisted of a lot of sequences and samples.

'In Each Hand A Cutlass', Singapore.

Then, the venue was packed to the brim for everyone who was waiting to catch TPPSG headliner 'Bombay Bicycle Club'. Incredibly, the band was even more amazing tonight than when they played at Clockenflap. I loved their set in Singapore! The acoustics were better, and the band sounded much tighter in the smaller space. We danced, sang and lolled around. This is in no way a hipster band. (Don't say Ivy & Gold or Shuffle is hipster-ish ah.) Tonight, they rocked out on stage and owned the crowd.

What a fantabulous weekend! Gigs galore. Dancing, grooving, rhythm filling up the mind. So much better than hanging out at clubs with doof-doof brainless beats. More gigs please. There'll be never gig fatigue unless promoters bring in crap or mediocre bands and charge sky-high prices. Keep it sane. Don't make us feel ripped off and we'll gladly pay your asking price. Please come back next year with an equally strong line-up, The People's Party!
