Not difficult to rustle up breakfast or brunch either, especially the types where it didn't require much cooking, except for frying up eggs in the pan. Scrambled eggs ain't tough. Everything else is store-bought. I was going to use the kippers bought from Marks & Spencer to prepare brunch.
We couldn't resist the packet of mortadella at the supermarket. Ham is always nice, for the carnivores, as long as it isn't too crappy. Not bacon though. Didn't feel like managing bacon in the pan when I don't understand its properties when cooked. Also, for RMB40, I would rather buy tartare sauce from Colman's than Kraft. Pricey, but the Colman's version is sublime. The multigrain sourdough had been bought, and kippers would be easily heated up in the pan, along with a sprinkling of Italian herbs. Oddly, I prefer not to use the microwave unless absolutely necessary.
I've watched the man caramelize onions enough to know what to do when I'm on my own. Chopping them up isn't difficult. They become strips anyway. With very little olive oil in the pan, I waited for the onions to brown. Quite pleased that the lot of caramelized onions tasted pretty similar to the man's. That same pan, with all the onion smells and flavors, was a good base to make scrambled eggs. When I cracked the eggs, the raw yolks and whites looked so good that I couldn't resist slurping up one. Yummmz. It was rather delicious. Then I set about whipping them and adding a dash of spices, black pepper and salt to it. Very easy to cook.
With a flounce, the bff layered pieces of mortadella on top of the plates for the meat-eaters. A pity I forgot to buy avocados. They would have added some color and gone well with the meal. No matter, we had raw sweet cherry tomatoes. Those were juicy crunchy.
