Bought Gloves

Bangkok is gritty. The smog that eased a couple of years ago seems to be back with a vengeance. It set in during the weekend and hasn't lifted. We saw no blue skies and only a dreary grey that the thick layer of humidity permeated. But in the nights and early mornings, there's respite. I haven't reacted badly to smog in Beijing, so there's no reason to think I'd be affected by this one too. Not staying in these places long enough to have the respiratory system protest. So a couple of us went jumping.

Good to find out that 3 of the friends in this weekend group like parkour; they've been consistent at it. I usually jump alone. But don't mind new challenges in a new space. It's not much of a surprise to discover that as a matter of practicality, all of us prefer to jump in Vibrams, and carry the light shoes wherever we travel. They double up as walking or jogging footwear too. Though I'm really not hot about jogging.

After a grueling morning and scraped knees and palms of the hands, I decided it was time to get gloves. I can't swing and slide with bare hands over rough concrete and steel. Not if I want to up the speed. A quick shower and it was off to the mall to stock up on clothing and gear.

Running around the sports section that was next to the toys, we had a bit of fun with the nerf guns on display. We haven't outgrown it, clearly. Heheheh. The friends stared at my outfit. One went, "Wrong. Very wrong." I was all like, what's wrong?! There were no holes or anything like that. "You're wearing Adidas top and Nike bottoms. WRONG." Wah lau. Fine. Whatever lah! For good measure, they eyed my hair too. "Time for a trim. Unless you intend to tie it up all the time." I scowled at them.

i've also been thinking about Vibrams. i have read a few posts of you mention it so far. if it's not too intrusive, do you have feet problems before u started on Vibrams? i've read mixed reviews about barefoot running for people with problem feet so wondering if i should try it.

D: i don't have issues with running gait. I run on my toes/ball of feet normally, with heels rarely touching the ground. When i jump, i always land toes first. I've got bunions and high arch on both feet. Track shoes actually hurt me a little. Vibrams work much better. I use them for 3-5km sprints, and mainly for parkour because of their grip and flexibility. I don't do long distance jogs.
