We didn't hit the popular pubs and nightclubs. I wasn't up to any sort of reggae, house and hip hop stuff. Skipped hotel bars too. Not in the mood for jazz either. We checked out the usual indie joints Bar 23, Happy Monday and Shades of Retro. Glad to have found them on this list too. We followed the list to 3 other recommended joints. If you wanna go, please double-check that the bars are still in operation. These shops come and go quite frequently in the city, or change an address.
Always good to feel the vibes of the city. It's ever-changing. Actually, the drinks at these bars are so-so. I'm not a cocktail-person. At these bars, I give whisky a miss and stick to beer. Don't mind Beer Lao or Chang. After all, the music is the highlight at these bars.
We were also taken out to private clubs for two comfortable nights. At these venues, whisky rules. Whewwww. Finally I get a fix! Heh. Conducive for conversations and all, especially when phones have to be set to the silent mode so that no ringing may disturb the convivial atmosphere. The only thing, the cigar smells which lingered on the clothes long after leaving the venues. UGH. Didn't bring Febreeze. Me NO LIKE.
In every city, there're several faces and facets of nightlife and what defines clubbing. Of course it's always about the drinking. But it's also about not lying face-down in a pool of puke after a night out. It's not about drinking to get a buzz. I like my health, thankyouverymuch. In moderation...in moderation!
