Strong Coffee
In this love for coffee, the body still hasn't adjusted to caffeine, after all this while. If I should attempt to have a cup of caffeine after 4pm, it'll mean that deep sleep won't wrap me up at midnight. I could be in bed with the eyes closed and a determination to sleep. I'll fall asleep, but the brain will conjure up fevered, vivid images all the way through. Come morning, I wake up a bloody grouch; it feels as though I've gotten no rest.
An impromptu afternoon date with the girlfriend meant coffee. We had three choices- the Vietnamese cafe, McCafe or Starbucks. So. If it's this sort of coffee, black is preferred. Heavy and strong, it's aromatic and almost tasy. I've almost forgotten how strong Vietnamese coffee can be. We've had a fun holiday in Hanoi! Invariably, after coffee, the tastebuds tend to want sparkling water to cleanse it. This girl is very difficult to grab hold of. I tend to say yes to her last minute requests if it doesn't mean major shifting around of schedules. Thankfully, our timings have always matched. Heh. We'd better enjoy this chilling out before she ends her year-long wonderful sabbatical and heads back to work.
Have you tried not ingesting any sugary drinks or caffeinated stuff for 3 days? No alcohol either. Freshly squeezed fruit juices (with no additional sugar) allowed. Take only water and sparkling water. Go easy on the oily, heavy food too. After 3 days, you'll discover that your tastebuds are heightened and geared towards tasting the most subtle flavors in your food. It works for me. I've this thing about 'de-toxing' weekly, and as much as I like it, I try not to have coffee on a daily basis.

This post brought a smile to my face, because it means I get to taste the wonderful Singaporean food in all its subtle splendour! As a European, I try to keep my meals light, since it suits me better in this climate - also, although I adore the smell of coffee, I don't like the actual taste. And alcohol during the week, well, that ended with the birth of our blond natural alarm clock. Sugar, admittedly, I have to work on. But still.
And whenever special people have time, I make time too. That's what we do for special people, isn't it? Besides, though Blondie might have put a stop to late night carousing, fortunately she loves company as much as her parents do!
katrijn: fruit juices! those will work beautifully for you.
