They Have A Menu

Having eaten thrice at No Menu, I like it much better than its previous incarnations. Chef Osvaldo Forlino and his family must be rather fond of Singapore to persevere in such a fickle industry and stay on to tweak their ideal of a rustic Italian restaurant in the city. Now, there's No Menu at Boon Tat Street, and Ristorante Amarone at Capital Tower across the street. I prefer the cosy No Menu over the other swankier restaurant.

No Menu has a menu. A full menu. So take your picks from the easy classics that can be replicated at home by a very hardworking home chef. Otherwise, let the professionals worry about the intricacies of a meal. What I'm very pleased with, is that the restaurant has finally picked the right servers who do smile at diners. Whewww. It's a certainly a welcome change from the previous brusque experiences.

The wine list is extensive and holds the few bottles of Italian reds that I'm quite fond of. Since I'm no connoisseur, the friends mused over the choices of wines. They picked out 3 bottles of umm...something. A white and a red, and a dessert wine to be served later. I didn't bother about what they were. I simply drank.

Tonight, the lobster pasta wasn't that beautiful. But it would do. The lobster was fresh, but it was slightly overdone. But the tomato sauce was tangy and full of familiar layers of flavors. Still good. The friends' meats fared way better, especially that lamb shank. Upon closer look at my plate, I realized that it had been recycled from a jumble sale when Fort Canning Country Club became Hotel Fort Canning. The plate's got one of them classic designs. Charming. I appreciate the elegant Riedel wine and water glasses to complement the recycled plates.

Since we had a nice tableful of humans who could stomach desserts, we had some. The friends shared. The man was thrilled to finally be able to have dessert proper at dinner. Eating with me means no sweets at the end of the meal. Oof. Of course I passed. Too laden with carbs to pile on more sugar. There was dessert wine anyway.
