Baybeats 2012 Wrapped Up

Dinner the other night of cold tofu and onsen tamago hit a spot. Downing bottles of cold water made for a tolerable evening. Last night, I must have been quite mad to have had beehoon HOT SOUP with fried fish slices, after puking my guts out in the morning from another (third) attempt at hot yoga.

Out at the stages, there was a continuous sea breeze, but the crowds made it impossible to be cool. Combined body heat is like a sauna tub. Be right in the midst of it and you'd just perspire profusely. Thought I'm rather tolerant to heat, usually, especially when dressed for it, and am mentally prepared for the onslaught of perspiration. However, 3 consecutive nights of crazy humidity, even with constant hydration, floored me. I'm not that weak, but still woke up with a friggin headache today. It took a cold morning swim, a lot of hiding in air-conditioning, water, juices and fruits to banish it. (I secretly blame that session of hot yoga. Never again will I attempt it.)

Final night of Baybeats 2012. Not to be missed. I thought it might be less crazy than Saturday night, without the NDP spillover. Less crazy definitely, but it was still packed. Oh...Youth Day horrrliday...the young peopleS no need to go to school the next day. So happz. Merrily bobbed along to the thoroughly enjoyable set by 'Run Neon Tiger'. Already wearing ear plugs, but still got the eardrums blasted by metal outfits 'Cockpit' and 'King Ly Chee' (荔枝王). In comparison, the progressive rock numbers from 'START OF THE DAY' made such pleasing tunes.

Tech issues dogged the first 3 songs of the set by 'In Each Hand A Cutlass'. They sounded so off. But by the fourth song, they managed to equalize the sounds, balance whatever that needed fixing. The band debuted 2 new songs- 'All We Are Left With Is A Memory Of A Memory' and 'Appetite For Dysfunction'. (Why their song titles so long one ah?) Loved 'Appetite For Dysfunction'. Part word-play from Guns N' Roses' album 'Appetite For Destruction', it doesn't sound anything like it. The band swears there isn't any John Mayer-ish influence in some of the riffs. Okaaaay. I must have been imagining it. Hahaha.

Fabulous weekend of music. Think of the tremendous effort that goes behind the scenes to put on this annual show. The logistics involved in running the 3-night festival. We've seen the bands play their hearts out. It shows when bands rehearse so damn hard for this festival.Of course there's a huge crew running about to make sure the shows go on smoothly. Kudos to the organizers. Till the next one!
