Pink Dot SG 2012
We had committed to being at Baybeats and couldn't join in to make that dot and participate in the illuminating of the pink lights in the night. One regret. But what we could do, was to turn up to support the movement and cause of Pink Dot SG.
The afternoon rains that threatened never did fall. The cloudy day made the humidity tolerable. The open-air event was such a party. We saw our friends, hung out and had a great time. The sweetest moments were when family and parents turned up to support their son/daughter/cousin/sister/brother. That is exactly what it means to be family- acceptance, not to mould your children into what you want them to be. You could try that for 16 years, and in the end, they'll be happiest when they are what they want to be, career, education, choice of life partner and sexual orientation.
Section 377A is archaic, and ought to be scrapped. I believe in the individual's right to love and freedom of choice. Neither do I discourage nor encourage. I simply accept, and I love my friends however they are. Their sexual orientation does not matter in the grand scheme of our tried and tested friendships. I've heard snide remarks made about Pink Dot. Those were borne out of fear and ignorance. Those people should have come by to share the ice-cream, chicken pieces, water, mini-cupcakes (baked by Wok and Barrel, and were gobbled up really fast) bubble tea and check out the concert.
Watch the highlights of the evening here.
