Happy Hour
The girlfriend's parents took us out to brunch and she chose Tiong Bahru Bakery simply because they hadn't popped in yet. She made her poor parents think it was an old school style of bakery store and were kinda wanting 'kopi' until squid ink bun was mentioned. Fresh back from Europe, they were like, "Oh, Singapore has it now?" Yup. Catching up with London, kind of. They were interested to check out the hype surrounding the bakery and how the estate had changed from the last they remembered of it.
It was surprisingly not crowded. No queues for the table, and no humans crowded around to make it too noisy. Almost pleasant at 11am. A pity the cafe doesn't serve freshly squeezed juices. Stuck to coffee then. Oddly, this separate 'bakery' blend from Forty Hands doesn't sit well with me. Not robust. Bleah. Ended up having 2 cups of flat white at a go to get a proper dose of coffee flavors.
It's fabulous to catch up with the girlfriend before she goes off on a trip, and very nice to see her parents again. They're always so sweet to me. And at this age, knowing that I don't even have a driving licence, they're still insisting on sending me wherever I'm headed to. Heeeee. Many of my friends' parents are so awesome.
