Watched TV All Day

On the way to the friends' house, we bought takeouts from Tatsuya and settled in for a serious bout of movie-afternoon-till-night. Dinner would be easily sorted out with a delivery from the rather decent Italian restaurant round the corner.

'Hit & Miss', produced by Paul Abbott and Sean Conway

We budgeted plenty of time to finish this mini-series in one breath. None of us like to watch shows week by week. It's either we wait to watch 3 episodes of any current series in a row, or we simply wait till the end of the season to catch them all. (Read reviews herehere and here.)

We thought to check out two episodes to see if the series was promising. In the two espisodes, there was already nudity, killing, hitting of other foul-mouthed humans in front of angsty, pensive children, and encouraging violence overall; cute pigs, teddy bears, and protagonist Mia sang a Morrissey song, and in the same episode, slit a man's throat but couldn't bring herself to slit a chicken's throat. Of course we continued with it.

'Hit & Miss' is eerie to the max man. No, it's not a thriller or anything supernatural. Just that the whole idea of family dynamics and the lack of dialogue kept us riveted. None of us took a pee break. As a transexual pre-op -damn-good-money-for-hire-killer Mia, who also plays out her role as legal guardian to several kids as both father and mother, Chloë Sevigny is absolutely enthralling.

'Mr. Nice', directed by Bernard Rose

Oddly, we weren't sick of one another's company. We didn't bother to take a break for dinner. We left the tv on and ate in front of it like teenagers. We decided to round up the night with the supposedly entertaining semi-biopic about the 60s international drug dealer Howard Marks. Through the narration of Rhys Ifans as Howard Marks'Mr. Nice' was strangely light-hearted. The hippie 60s, truly. (Read reviews here, here and here.)

At one scene when people sat around smoking hash, without the nudity and the degeneration yet, we stared at one another, and chortled. Fairly certain that we had the same thought running through our minds. Why weren't we smoking something while watching this?! Hahaha. Ahhh...the days when we were young. Those were dangerous exhilarating times. Never mind, we settled for beer and single malts.
