臺灣小吃 :: 花生捲加冰淇淋

At one of the night markets (夜市)...yes, again. We've been eating many dinners at night markets and fast food eateries simply because we get back to town late. This meant that sometimes, I'd rather skip dinner altogether and eat my stash of oatmeal raisin cookies. One such night, we headed out to the nearest market for a bite. Quite tired, not that hungry, but needed a little something more than instant noodles. We stopped at one of the carts to watch the preparation of a snack in absolutely fascination.

It was a shaved peanut ice-cream crêpe (花生捲加冰淇淋) of sorts that originated from Yilan (宜蘭). Meant as a summer snack, the current weather was still conducive to nom on it. The dude shaved off presumably sweet peanut shavings from a huge block onto the wrap, scooped out ice-cream flavors of corn and yam onto it, then topped it with coriander! A, the dessert queen, was most interested to try it. In fact, it was her dinner. TSK.

H and I were so curious about it, but refused to take a bite. It just wasn't very attractive. A, the ice-cream monster, merrily finished all of it. Quite pleased that we settled ground rules about food. Otherwise, tough to find any one venue to cater to respective palates. Chances are, H and A would eat more of an item than I do. Unless it's rice balls. Then I'll eat up all that. Heh. H went off to find her fried milk thingy (炸牛奶) that was so sweet, and I went off to nibble on a non-offensive spring onion pancake (蔥油餅). All rather satisfying.
