Byron Hamburgers

We think there're plenty of burgers out there in Londontown that rival Shake Shack, which will open its first outlet at Covent Garden mid-2013. But that's us. Anyway, the bunch of us like Byron Hamburgers and went out to dinner for beer and good old burgers done medium rare. Fast food done well without the nonsense foie gras topping. It's all in the beef, the grill and the tasty buns.

Their veggie burger is done with grilled portobello mushroom instead of the usual tofu patty. Nice. But I skipped that. Was more interested in their sides. Mac and cheese worked fine to fill the tummy. The courgette fries were awesome, as was the coleslaw. I liked the hamburger buns so much that I asked for a special order of just toasted buns. :)

Good choices of beer available. I decided to try out all these exciting bourbon. Ordered shots of Woodford Reserve, Four Roses and Maker's Mark. They're not exactly single malts with layered complexity. But they aren't your crappy bourbon either. Down the throat on a cold winter night, they were rather delightful.

Addendum: On 10 December 2012, the Westminster city council banned rare, medium-raw meat in burgers, as well as steak tartare.
