Oysters Ahoy!

I wanted a thick fish soup and a fish pie. The man wanted oysters. The friends wanted prawns and scallops. Half wanted the beef, Guinness and oyster pie. We all wanted porter and stout. Wright Brothers it was. Went to its Oyster & Porter House for a ridiculously decadent cholesterol-busting meal.

We aren't wine people, so it's either breaking out that bottle of single malt, or stick to the awesome ales and stouts on the menu. Abandoned the ales for stout. Shared a bottle of champagne to start. Then bottles of Meantime Double Chocolate Stout and Whitstable Oyster Stout dominated the table. They were SO GOOOOD. I downed three bottles each, of double chocolate and oyster. Tasty. Perfect accompaniment to the meal. Burrrrrrp.

Lots of oysters. Had a mixed platter, then we chose a second and third round of mainly Cumbrae and Jersey. Briny. Refreshing. I'm not a big fan of oysters, and only took four. The rest ate them up. Freshly shucked in front of us, we kept the counter busy as they shucked 72 oysters for us in record time.

We stayed for two full hours! Stuffed to the brim. Got a bit tipsy. Staggered out into the dimishing daylight and felt it turn colder as we found space for a coffee next door at Monmouth.
