Laneway 2013

On stage: Japandroids.

Sunny. Blazing. Friggin hot. Not the sort of weather to be in jeans, socks and boots. Just use up that tube of sunblock. As in all anal Australian gigs at stadiums, and outdoor music festivals, umbrellas aren't allowed in here. Never mind that it's Singapore. So plonk on the hat and sunnies, drink lotsa cold water instead of beer, and you'll last the 12 hours easy. When the breeze blew in at sunset, it was absolutely gorgeous.

Laneway 2013. Bigger, better, louder. Honestly, Gardens by the Bay is a great venue in terms of sound, logistics and view. So if it's an outdoor gig, yes, mainly for the sound, I prefer the Gardens over Fort Canning Park any day. While portaloos are aplenty, there're also many real toilets available. Hurhurhur. Boot parties at the Gardens? Forgeddit. We won't ever have a Glastonbury, Coachella or Big Day Out. Doesn't matter. I'll skip the mud and sand, thankyou. Just gimme the line-up.

Quite done with a certain genre of bands and a certain type of music. One can argue that age is a factor. Not so sure about that. Doesn't mean we'll blindly run to every festival marketed, be it in Singapore or overseas. For Laneway and others in Singapore at least, we're not going to maximize the ticket price for the full hours and watch all the bands. Among the friends and I, without prior discussion, we unanimously, quietly, skipped Kings of Convenience. So over them. Not fans of some of the bands. Great to have heard them on the stereo, but live on stage, a tad low on the energy levels. Alt-J is ahhh...too young for me, and they really didn't behave very well during the technical glitch. Real Estate live was okay, but I prefer to listen to them on the iPod.
