Neko Case

And a mellow evening at Neko Case rounded up this last Mosaic Festival presented by the Esplanade. Dare I hope for a re-branding and a new presentation of this festival in another form in the future? They hinted at individual gigs, but dunno how the larger branding goes.

There were many shows that I caught which held vocals and lyrics too. Heh. Washed Out, The Cat Empire and Ólafur Arnalds. I've watched so many good performances these two weeks, both outdoors (almost forgot about the haze) and indoors, ticketed and complimentary. Anechois, Sore, Cheating Sons, King Kong JaneNoughts and Exes, etc. Not bothered to blog about every band or show. Suffice to say, I thoroughly enjoy this wonderful slew of gigs we're getting.

On some days, I welcome Neko Case's vocals more than Dave Grohl's. It's a treat to be able to hear her in person. I've liked her music since The New Pornographers. That voice. And her songwriting. Even for those who don't know Neko Case, they might recall a song from 'The Hunger Games' in its 2012 accompanying album 'Songs from District 12 and Beyond'- 'Nothing to Remember'. Or you might find 'Night Still Comes' familiar. I heard many lovely songs. And sang along to many. 'That Teenage Feeling', 'Favorite''Hold On, Hold On', etc. Also, mesmerized by the harmonizing vocals of Kelly Hogan.

It was a very sedate audience though. Nobody bothered standing up till the end when they clapped to request an encore, then gave a standing ovation at the final song. Then they sat right down. YAWN. I slunked into my seat. This was a really strange feeling. For many gigs, I still prefer to stand. Feels better methinks. Still made for a beautiful night. I resisted buying a tee. Dunno why! Arrrgh. Now I've to go have a think about getting it online.
