Went out to West End because I wanted to browse at independent bookstore Avid Reader. Of course I bought books (plenty of Australian titles), and erm find inspiration for other titles on the Kindle. Hey I can't carry that many books home. E-books are still practical.
Since we were in West End, we lunched at Plenty. Very hip with very decent food. It's not very well ventilated though. No air-conditioning. Right now, for a girl from Singapore, Brisbane at 28dC with hot blazing sun and wind is great. But if this is high summer in Brisbane, this cafe would be rather unbearable.
Plenty offers a rotating menu. Loads of variety for omnivores and vegetarians. Just pop in and look at the huge board for the dishes of the day. The friends had got rye waffles with poached eggs, cream cheese and smoked salmon, a Savory Mike of spiced beef and lamb mince with fried eggs and toast, and pea and quinoa fritters with breakfast salad, avocado, labneh and a poached egg. Mmmm.
For mains averaging AUD18 and sides at AUD4, portions were hearty and the many ingredients lent so many flavors and textures to easy familiar foods. The man tried their house made flatbread with slow cooked lamb shoulder, charred zucchini, peas, feta, turmeric hummus and vadouvan. I loved my omelette. It came chockfull of potato, bacon, fontina and spinach. Added sides of hash brown and avocado to it. Super satisfying.
