มีเบียร์เพียงไม่กี่ที่บ้านดอกแก้ว

Wanted a quiet drink and went out to Dok Kaew House Bar (บ้านดอกแก้ว, loosely translated as 'House of Glass Flowers'). I love this casual hangout! Sited in the residential area of Ari in an olden style wooden house, bar serves craft beer, both foreign and Thai. I like how there's no air-conditioning in this, but plenty of fans dot the area. You'd have to remove your shoes though, so bring a pair of socks if you're like me who has a quirk about being barefoot in public spaces or friends' homes.

Sure there were bottled foreign craft beers and some Deschutes, Stone and Thornbridge IPAs on tap. We weren't here for those. We were a lot more interested in the Thai brews. I'm not particularly fond of IPAs. There was a Lost Coast 8-Ball oatmeal stout on tap, but I skipped that. Too familiar with it. Took sips of local brews from the friends' glasses. I opted for a lovely raspberry ale from Max Beer to start.

I haven't been drinking much, so went easy on the alcohol. At this bar, they offer quite a range even for local brews. Lots of light beer, IPAs, wheat beers, but it wasn't difficult to find my favorite Thai beer. A dark beer so well done! It's in a bottle though, and that's fine. Stuck to it the whole night. It's this gorgeous coffee stout by Nectar Brewery. Mmmm.

Laughed and laughed when I read an article on Soimilk that mentioned something about ghosts in old Thai houses, and how the owners said that there are no ghosts in this house. "ร้านคราฟต์เบียร์สุดขลังที่เจ้าของยืนยันว่าไม่มีผี" Hahaha. Old houses with creaky wooden floors could sometimes feel like they might host a (hopefully) friendly ghost or two.

The best part- there's a kitchen that can do a filling dinner instead of just bar grub, and oily fried stuff. I hate it when there's only chicken wings, fries, pizza and sausages at bars. That’s sad food. When I saw the menu at Dok Kaew House Bar, I was like, OMG. There was even a fluffy Thai omelette. YAY. The pork rib soup was soooo good. Salty, sour and spicy all in one spoonful. Ahhhhh. I only wanted the soup and daikon, not the meat. And we ordered krapow muu (ผัดกะเพราหมู), no sharing. Hurhurhur. They even have grilled pork instestines! Erm, eiooow. But the man and the friends loved it. Good beer and good food. It was a wonderful night. We felt really comfortable and welcomed at Dok Kaew House Bar.
