When the London peeps unexpectedly dropped into town for this festive period, it was such a delight! They needn't do touristy things either. They're familiar with Singapore and could easily get around via our trains, which thankfully held up for them. Compared to the dreary weather back at home in London, the friends totally welcomed the Singapore humidity. Gym workouts, beers and a few good meals were in order.
Yes, you read that right. Gym. 😄 When we belong to the same big-name-gym that has outlets around the world, and they could easily hop into the branches in Singapore, it made sense to squeeze in a few sweat sessions. It was extremely fun to see them (and vice versa) grit it out at weights and cardio. Hahahaha. Plenty of treasured conversation along the way.
Took the friends to Hakumai for an omakase sashimi and sushi dinner. Good quality Japanese raw fish is something that's a little tough to find in London. It's always makes a memorable meal, especially when G and S totally enjoy sushi too, and they have no allergies to seafood or shellfish. Lots of food appeared on the table. They finally could have their abalone done right in this part of the world. We were absolutely stuffed.
Had to have an accompanying bottle of sake, of course. Picked a wonderful bottle of Kotsuzumi junmai daiginjyo from Nishiyama Shuzo. I think this is the peach blossom flavor. It leans towards the sweet scale, and I didn't take much of it. It's superbly smooth, of course. I ordered it for the guests because they have a sweet tooth for alcohol. It's indeed a bottle that they loved and polished off quite easily. Ha! A quiet night with great company. We're quite done with hitting the clubs or random house parties, and being completely plastered. Those uhhh experiences should remain a hilarious memory of our past lives. Oof.
