Had to put the new kitchen through a test run. Needed to be absolutely familiar with everything and the cleaning up, and of course to make sure that food hygiene is cool. It isn't fashionable to poison your friends! I wanted to do it on a night that the man was occupied at work and wouldn't be home. I wanted to do it alone. Heh. He can test out the kitchen later on when he has time to prep a meal too. He needs to know where everything is, and not yell my name each time he needs something.
He's a little stunned by how organized the kitchen is. Hey, it isn't just neat okay. It's extremely coherent and logical to the flow of how we both prep the ingredients then cook. The kitchen doesn't belong to me. It's ours, and he cooks more often, so I expect him to keep it as clean and uncluttered as I do. It isn't a difficult task when the space is tiny.
The in-laws keep their kitchen kosher, and free of pork. I don't have such obligations in mine although I always prefer not to handle big pieces raw meat. I could gut a fish so easily without the fishmonger's help. I've been doing that since I was a kid lah! Hahahah. But I really cringe at handling chicken or pork. While I'm not interested in cooking with pork (like loin or bake it into ham or roast etc), I'm not opposed to minced meat in dishes or spare-ribs and bones in soups. I don't take the meat in the soup anyway. #ImpieCooks2018
Did my favorite sort of comfort food that evening- pork rib and winter melon soup, bok choi (milk cabbage version) with minced beef. Used the rice cooker for the first time too; eschewed the usual brown rice for Japanese short-grain white rice. Dinner turned out pretty well. Woooohooo. There was enough food left over for the man to eat when he got back later. And one more portion of vegetables and minced beef for my lunch the next day.

Yum! Love the arrangement, and looks light and nutritious!
Yes! Something easy to prep so that I still have the energy to put it all into decent looking plates instead of dealing with a ton of washing-up.
Congrats on your new home. May it be the beginning of many sweet memories for you, your loved ones and friends.
thanks D!
