A Peranakan Christmas Dinner!

We're really blessed to have friends who're happy to open up their dining tables and living spaces to host a meal. It's a hectic period, and while K and M always put out some of the most delicious foods at home, we decided to 'cater' for tonight. The wonderful Peranakan food was duly ordered, picked up and delivered, courtesy of B who made all the arrangements.

The awesome food is from Rumah Bebe. You'd know that it's not a restaurant, and they don't actually cater. It's not the easiest thing ordering from them unless you know how to go about being polite, and punctual in picking up your food. The kitchen's portions go by the pot. But when we have many true-blue Peranakans at the table, and all of us are spice + chilli monsters, we will ensure that the food is at least GOOD.

The spiciness was ON POINT. It was sooooo good. Loads of familiar items on the table because none of us could do with any more turkey, roast beef, steaks or ham. I'd love to simply have hearty salads, but I think everyone else would kill me for it. Hahahaha. We had laksa goreng, sambal petai with fish roe, chap chye, beef rendang, and for me, the winning dish- sambal udang belimbing, all accompanied by a spicy dose of sambal belachanOf course the food was oily! That would be the whole point of eating steamed white rice to line the stomach.

When we first tucked into the food, four-year-old R took a look at all of us (her dinner was being prepped in the other room), walked up to N and asked her, in all seriousness, "Are you starving?" The room erupted into laughter. I DIED. N was likely extremely hungry, and she usually eats fairly fast. Kids say it like it is. HAHAHAHAH. 😂🤣

Very few of us made it to whisky. It feels as though our capacity for whisky has greatly diminished this year. It was wonderful Christmas cheer all around, and the company always makes it one of those parties that I make time for and pray that I didn't stupidly double-book the year-end party calendar.
