Dear Aunty J baked us a whole sugee cake. Wow! It even came with a little Christmas pin and a handwritten card. We're overwhelmed by her generosity and efforts.
Aunty J is a fantastic home cook, whipping out awesome curries, dhal and such. Her fish cutlets are legendary. She bakes too, and has a few consistently dependable dessert items that everyone loves. It's such a treat to be able to taste her cooking and nibble on her bakes.
What a beautiful slab of sugee cake. Sliced it up. Half went straight to the freezer to store for future happiness. Wheeeeeeee. Sugee cakes keep very well in the freezer. That's the beauty of sugar. Hahahah. The other pieces are staying in the fridge to satisfy the man's daily sweet tooth this festive season. This is certainly a rich sugee cake. Mmmm. Full of semolina goodness. Dried fruits went into this one. The man and I swore we could taste a subtle hint of cardamom, but apparently there weren't any spices in this batch!
Okay, it's still wayyy too sweet for my tastebuds- which means I can only take very tiny pieces of it, and I will, especially if it's with black coffee. The bitterness helps with the sugar and makes it less cloying. I can't eat it every day. But I will have it every now and then. It's such a heartwarming gift.
