Happiness is a bottle of an easy red shared with V over our 'festive' dinner at Luka. When I see the girl regularly over the year, I would also love to sit down to a meal with her this year end. I'm grateful for her friendship, her indulgence, time and love, and am happy to have her in 2019 too.
Of course there's food. We were hungry! Pasta! V wanted to try the carbonara. It wasn't too bad, but not as good as the one we found and lost (restaurant shifted, chef went away). That was proper carbonara done with egg yolk and no cream. While decent and awesomely topped with cheese shavings, Luka's version doesn't hit the spot and make us fall in love.
I opted for the uni pasta. It wasn't too bad at all, but it still held too much cream. The kitchen cooked similarly to a mentaiko spaghetti. Well, it's probably a preference- I like my uni pasta closer to an aglio e olio. Otto Ristorante's uni pasta (with zucchini and grey mullet roe too) captivated me years ago, and it remains my favorite iteration of it.
We had space for 100 grams of wagyu rump too. I think that the only time I don't mind the wagyu cut is when it's flank or rump, especially the latter. That was only five generous slices on the board; we managed that quite well. It was the potato gratin that did us in. We couldn't resist it. Hahahaha. It totally filled us up!
Oh, almost forgot to mention the appetizer. It's one of my favorites here. It wasn't difficult to persuade her to share an appetizer with me. The smoked egg topped with a strip of wagyu and uni. I was totally gunning for the super creamy yolk and uni. No regrets. One egg, halved. We inhaled it. Absolutely winning.

hurrah that you had a positive experience there too! sometimes the wait and bustle can be a little annoying if for any reason they're short-handed that day or too many clogged up orders.
