SIFA 2019 :: Bill Frisell Trio

The man excitedly picked out Bill Frisell Trio (featuring Rudy Royston on drums, and Thomas Morgan on bass)  to attend at SIFA. Of course. To be honest, I didn’t even think of attending this show. Hahahaha. The man is slightly more open to the different genres of music out there. While he plays mainly rock and metal, as a guitarist, he's better poised to appreciate the technical demands of jazz and blues.

The music tonight began slightly experimental, then switched to mellow. It ended with the trio’s take on The Beatles’s ‘In My Life’, and that James Bond theme song for the encore. Improvisation forms the soul of jazz, but I’m totally unschooled in it. I’m also unfamiliar with Bill Frisell's solo albums. I unwittingly dozed off for the first fifteen minutes. Oops. This isn't my kind of music. 😬

The musicians were excellent. Drums were really fun. Bill Frisell has got this lovely phrasing, and he coaxes the most beautiful tone out of his guitar/s (they’re custom-built and I can never identify them unless they’re Teles.) That made it rather enjoyable. I was awake for most of the show okay!
