Bistrot Mademoiselle

We were so pleased to be invited to R's birthday dinner at Bistrot Mademoiselle. The table was set and ready for a party. Quietly nestled along Jalan Klapa, the bar curates a range of wines not commonly found at the rest of the trendy bars in town. It's mainly gleaned from the owner's preferences and a desire to put out other 'non-famous' French wines to the Singapore market. Tonight, many bottles of champagne, sauternes and a red flowed. The bottle of red (a gorgeous fruit and cedar 2010 Gloria from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux) had been decanting since mid-afternoon.

R had convinced the owner to cook. Teeeeheehehe. The bar doesn't offer dinner (or mains) often, save for snacks. We're usually there for the wine and cheese, and food would have delivered and sent in from elsewhere. But tonight was special, so the owner cooked. Delicious food was trotted out. Loads of bread. The main of côte de boeuf was beautifully grilled. Charred on the outside and pink on the inside. Ate more slices than I should. There was then a cheese platter, of which I overdosed on comté, and a dessert of chocolate lava cake. I honestly felt like another glass of sauternes (it was sweet but complex), as my real dessert... hehehe, but the ABV in the blood would be too much for a 7am start the next day...... so never mind.

It was a much needed night out for us. For me. It was such a fun night with lively company, lovely food and wine. However, we had to leave after cheese and dessert. A pity we couldn't stay longer because, dog. As grouchy and sleepy as the dog was after being vaccinated at the vet, we still had to get home before midnight to check on her. (She was still grouchy and sleepy, and didn't need our attention.) Also, my bedtime is also at preferably before midnight nowadays. Hurhurhur. The table had more energy and hung out way later than we did. Oof!
