Death Cab for Cutie 2019

I don't need to watch bands play live again and again. Once is usually enough. Yet, I find myself at Death Cab for Cutie's (DCFC) 2019 show at the Esplanade Theatre. Again. The band started promptly at 8pm! That was impressive. I missed half of the first song because I went to the loo. Ha! There was still a long line of humans queuing for beer too. Yes, Esplanade has relaxed its rules and allows drinks to be carried into the venues for some shows.

The band started with 'I Dreamt We Spoke Again' from their ninth album 'Thank You for Today' (2018). Which, to me, doesn't sound very newfangled. The band stuck to their dependable groove and melodies. It was a good trip down the memory lane, all the way back to 2005. As far as 'pop' sounds go, DCFC's songs are soothing. They've accompanied me through many late nights. It's cute. On this same night in London, the man watched Jenny Lewis. I'd have loved to see her too. She and Ben Gibbard make.... The Postal ServiceOof.

I had forgotten that we caught DCFC in 2016 at Hard Rock Hotel's Coliseum (terrible sound), till the friends mentioned it. Tonight made it the fourth time I've seen the band. I've also caught Ben Gibbard's solo sets in various cities. As enjoyable as the band is, and no matter how much I love Ben Gibbard's voice and songwriting, I don't need to see them a fifth time. Hurhurhur. Gotta allocate time and budget for other bands. I still have a fair way to go down the music bucket list!
