Almost slipped my mind that we got tickets to American Football. Hurried to check out all their albums again. It’s hilarious because since they released their eponymous EP in 1998, their subsequent three albums have been all titled ‘American Football’. Heh.
I’ve listened to the band on and off, but never really got into them back then. They were a college band, and went quiet for a long time before releasing an album in 2016. Well, the band members all had their separate and fun projects going on. American Football do post-rock things. Mainly math rock and emo. Not quite my kind of music (they're not Tool! Hahaha) but getting to watch a gig is always better than none.
The 75-minute gig started at 9pm. Nursed a crap merlot in a plastic cup for half of the show. Wondered how on earth these people on stage still look so young after so many years! Bobbed to some familiar songs, and properly checked out their latest album released in March 2019. It was pretty all right for a short night out.
