This was an annual Christmas potluck gathering much looked forward to. It's always fun to get together. Hosts said 'no gifts and no gift exchange', and we respected that. The gifts insofar are tiny pieces of food or cookies. Just for us to say hello. Oof. For whatever else, we'll separately make donations to the individuals' nominated charities.
There was a hiccup with the man and I's contribution- a tray of biryani to feed 5-6 persons became a sad box for 1-2 persons. The restaurant went one step ahead to best themselves- that one sad box held chicken biryani when vegetarian biryani was ordered. THE MORTIFICATION. The restaurant worked to rectify it, but it really left a sour taste in my mouth because I had expected the screw-up, tried to control it with reminders. They had been so sure that they'd get it right, and their kitchen still screwed up. This is why I nag. BECAUSE I KNOW BETTER. Zzzzzzz.
Thank goodness friends are kind and forgiving, and we had plenty of good food brought by everyone. No turkey and no ham appeared on the table, because after so many years, we know that this table doesn’t care about turkey and ham, and nobody really bothers about roast beef. I ate loads of pesto pasta and cashew nut curry. J made pulled pork and coleslaw, and provided such delicious soft buns to go along with it. (The man shamelessly took that home for the next two days' breakfast.) There were rosemary-orange roasted chicken, grilled vegetables, vegetarian meatloaves (I should have packed a few slices home too), and a gorgeous platter of cheese. The hosts offered very good wine which I loved.
