Now we avoid large group gatherings, and are staying at home more. Besides walking the dog, we've largely cut down on many outings. We're all experts at this staying home thing. We're fantastic at texting and such. As long as the internet doesn't go down, we're all still in business. We're not in quarantine and Singapore isn't on a full lockdown yet. We're cautious, but life goes on. We still venture out for a meal at the local restaurants we support. Social distancing is kept, and we have masks handy.
We meet our friends but are mindful of everyone's health and comfort levels. We tell one another where we have been and such, withholding no information of our whereabouts, and have no qualms to cancel if anyone of us feel like we've been brushing by confirmed cases or the scarier possibility, asymptomatic carriers. I don't belong to the camp who refuses to wear masks if we feel well. I'm wearing a mask if I don't feel safe in any venue or if I suspect I’ve been exposed to higher risks than the average, or if I'm visiting a home with immunocompromised people, say the weekly visits to the old folks on my roster.
Kimchi Ramen
On a random evening when it was just a casual get-together, the friends fed us kimchi ramen. The man and I plus the dog really shamelessly just turned up like that. I'm glad it's a one-dish meal so that they don't have to go through so much trouble just to cook and have us over.
L didn't use instant soup, so to speak. She added stuff to it to make it more nutritious. Oof. I teased L about making ram-don ('jjapaguri' is actual name of the dish) instead. That's supposed to be way easier to do than a soup-based ramen.
A light bottle of Rathfinny Estate Blanc de Noirs 2015 went well with spices. We didn't drink any other alcohol since we all would have heavy meetings the following day. Light bubbly was great for a week day night.
Chicken Rice
It was meant to be a bigger gathering to eat L's delicious chicken rice, but it went down to four because of social distancing measures and such. After a flurry of texts to check comfort levels, we still went.
This is indeed a bowl of chicken rice I had looked forward to for ages. L constantly tweaks her recipes, so that bowl of rice always turns out perfect. I ate it all. I took a bit of the chicken, and ate a fair chunk of skin. Hurhurhur. The delicious fish maw soup and fish balls filled me up nicely.
Laurenz V's Sunny Grüner Veltliner was white wine chosen for tonight. It was gorgeously full bodied and.... oily, complementing soy sauce and chilli beautifully. I don't know what's an Austrian grüner veltliner grape. Now I know. The hosts prepped a birthday cake for the man! Wheeeee! What a lovely surprise!
