The man turned 45 over the weekend. We had planned for a 15 to 20 person dinner party a month ago, to be held at a restaurant. But we decided to call it off, ten days before the official social distancing measures kicked in. We had an inkling that further movement restriction measures would happen. It wouldn’t be right for us to endanger our friends.
So we stayed in and had ourselves a mini celebration with the dog. Totally impromptu. We thought that we would pop out for dinner with the dog or drive somewhere to get takeout. In the end, we chose to stay in and have food delivered from Daisy's Dream Kitchen. #SupportLocal We totally appreciated the prompt delivery. There was minimal washing up done since all I cooked was a pot of brown rice. Hurhurhur. We’ve been cooking so much that we were too lazy to cook over the weekend, and I really didn’t feel like cooking and scrubbing the floor.
Cracked open a delightful bottle of bubbly that was gifted by the friends. The Daubigny Brut nicely complemented the awesome Peranakan food. Spices and bubbly. And that was all the alcohol we needed. There was a slice of carrot cake for the man. He was happy. It was a good night.
Happy 45th, darling. These are strange times and I’m glad we’ve lived each day as though we might not have tomorrow. I can’t be happier that you’ve had a chance to dedicate your twenties and thirties to chasing your passions fully, taking them as far as you could. In your forties, I can’t believe how much you enjoy dedicating yourself to building a solid life with me, and a dog.
We don’t need crazy parties or YOLO slogans. I prefer to look at it from this perspective — that we have one life, and we should live it joyfully and with our hearts full so that we have few or no regrets. How this is achieved, will obviously differ from human to human. I’m relieved to know that our perspectives have aligned through the years without either of us compromising in any way.
Also, you surprised me by mastering Ramin Djawadi’s Westworld main title theme ON THE KEYBOARD before I did. Damn. Stick to the guitar, will you?
