A 1975 Vintage

Sure, no event may have more than ten persons at any one time, but that doesn’t mean we should see a hundred people over ten days. We’re morally obliged to restrict the frequency of our social gatherings, and keep to the same number of humans we see on a regular basis. Okay lor, that isn’t difficult. I don’t see that many humans on a regular basis anyway. Hahaha. Most of us in this social circle have already cut down on attending unnecessary social events early last year.

J and L were comfortable coming out for dinner with us at O’maJ. We didn’t dare plan ahead, but we did a review of our whereabouts for the week, and considered risk exposure before asking them out for dinner the following night. We’re glad that the restaurant is big enough to accommodate the physical restrictions to adhere to the rules of social distancing in Singapore. Happy to see that they had a number of tables filled that night. #SupportLocal

I saved all my quota for beef for this 1.5 kg tomahawk. The friends were game for it too. Having it at the restaurant does save us from all the effort of scraping the grill, slicing it up, and washing the gigantic serving boarding. The friends had prepped an intriguing bottle of red in the man’s birth year — a vintage from Château Cardinal-Villemaurine in a merlot blend of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1975. Knowing our aversion to pricey wines, the friends were clever to suss out a decently-priced vintage for us. Even better for us to be able to taste it together!

We were thankful to have had this dinner. It’s one for the memory bank. Although we try to keep to seeing the same humans at each outing, and we even keep to the same few restaurants, we can’t do this every week either, because #SocialDistancing. We don’t know if and when a full lockdown or a curfew will come into effect, but we'll be ready. Till then, we’ll celebrate all occasions responsibly.
