I'm rather tickled that periodically, the man would request for a pot of Cantonese style soup. He doesn't just drink the soup. He also eats the ingredients (which would be tasteless), adding fish sauce or chilli sauce to them. That's something I don't really do. (Unless food rationing happens and the stores run out of food. #COVID-19) All the goodness is leached out into the soup isn't it? I don't put Asian soups on the table regularly. Soup isn't difficult to do. This sort of daily soups won't take hours on the stove either. But it's an effort, so I'd prefer not make it a habit. Hurhurhur.
The man requested for Cantonese pork rib soup two weeks in a row. FINE. At least he didn't ask for fish soup, which is marginally more troublesome to boil from scratch. We have a stash of Indonesian pork ribs and big bones that we bought from the wet market, so that would make a few pots of soup for three persons. The soup will taste different from pot to pot, depending on whether I add apples or daikon. This round, the man asked for chicken feet to be added into the stock. I'm like, eiooowwww. Luckily the chicken stall at the wet market is always happy to help me chop the meat to the required portions, as well as remove nails off of the feet.
There were carbs, of course. A pot of mixed rice. Soaked them dried scallops, oysters and mushrooms. Sliced up a kabocha, and also marinated a chicken leg. They would all be seared and placed into the rice cooker. Once in there, the rice cooker would sort it out. An hour later, this one pot pumpkin chicken rice (靚湯配南瓜蘑菇雞飯) was ready. #ImpieCooks2020
This is our easy-to-whip up dinners at home. The man and I take turns cooking because we produce rather different foods. Hahahah. (But I'm the one cleaning up lor. Dohhhh.) On fuss-free days, I'll cook a little more so that it becomes the next day's lunch. I can always tweak it and toss it up in spicy shrimp belachan then. Nope, even with us staying home more, I'm not tempted to buy an Instant Pot or a Thermomix. They don't fit this kitchen's needs or my cooking preferences.
