Cô Hai Bánh Mì

Grabbed a takeout for dinner from Cô Hai Bánh Mì at Beach Road. What a charming little restaurant in a shophouse! It transported us to Vietnam for a few minutes. All their social media sites seemed to be down or not updated during this period, and they aren't working with any delivery partners. We ordered our food via the phone, and paid upon arrival/collection.

This is a new-to-us restaurant (it's been around for almost two years), and to our surprise, their Vietnamese baguettes were legit. The man went as far as to say that this is his new favorite Vietnamese eatery for bánh mì. He ordered the signature Bánh Mì Cô Hai and added an egg to the mix of Vietnamese hams, roasted pork, pork floss and pâté.

The man also ordered more carbs of rice with BBQ pork chop with egg and a steamed egg meatloaf (cơm tấm sườn nướng, chả, trứng). The pork chop was nicely marinated and lean, but rather tough. They grilled it. I think I prefer our sous-vide version at home. Oof. However, for a convenient meal at $12, there was nothing to complain about.

This restaurant is known for its bánh mì and not its phở. Apparently the soup noodles are surprisingly bad. Hurhurhur. Their vermicelli salads with meats or done vegetarian in the form of bún thịt nướng and bún chay are decent. I can never resist the fresh rice paper rolls (gỏi cuốn) because those could be my mains at any given meal. I suppose they're like a lighter version of popiah. These rolls were hilarious because the kitchen simply left the coriander dangling. It was literally a vegetable garden in the box. I pulled out all the shrimps and coriander and left them on the man's plate. Hahaha.
