Fried chicken with buttermilk is like another 'lockdown dish' that whole world is making. I'm not a fan of chicken, but I do like its skin. HAHAHAH. And I really like KFC's Original skin. BUT eating it always gives me the runs, so I've eased off of it. With Punch's fried chicken run ending on 19 June, I decided to finally try it. J had already tried the fried chicken, and she liked it enough to want to eat it again. So she ordered it for us for a Fried Chicken Lunch Date.
Had a full morning of appointments and had to run errands. So I was suitably hungry by noon. Popped an antihistamine, boiled up a pot of barley water and filled up a few bottles to chill in the fridge, and got ready to quaff fried chicken for lunch with J. When the food arrived, I raised an eyebrow. There was quite a fair bit of stuff!
She got me the three-piece meal that held a thigh, drumstick & whole wing, fries, fried mantou, homemade pickles, spicy tomato mayo. Plus a tub of bircher muesli. (J said in case I couldn't finish the chicken, there would be a default type of food the stomach loves.) And coffee, and out of kindness (because I told her not to bother feeding the husband; he had a lunchbox prepped), there was also a cup of coffee for the man. Waaaaaah. 🖤
I gave the drumstick to the man. No loss to me since it had the least amount of skin. Hahahah. I don't mind nibbling on wings, and the skin off the thigh. I do like chicken skin a fair bit. The accompanying sides were rather fun. I wasn't keen on the spicy tomato mayo. Poured out a dollop of Lingham's chilli sauce instead, and added raw cherry tomatoes too. The pickles were crunchy, complementing the oils in the fried chicken. If this dish makes a comeback to the menu on special days, the next time I order this, I might ask for two mantou and to skip the fries. I really like mantou and they travel well in a box.

I found my chicken skin mate ^^ I have zero love for chicken meat but totally love fried chicken (despite of the indigestion hehehe). My comfort food is ordering Popeyes or Jollybee, requesting only thigh meat (peppering the request with please and thank you very much) and eating all the 4 thigh skin ;p I told my husband on our earlier dating time before that chicken can go extinct all I care but not cows (much to his horror hehehe)
Wheeeeeee! you like chicken skin too! oof!
your husband would very much prefer cows and chickens both not go extinct. hahahaha.
I am a chicken skin fan too :)
@coboypb: ahahaha. you too? apparently those Korean fried chicken sets are good because they come with pickles to make you feel less guilty! i'm not sure how they come in because i've never ordered, but some of those photos floating around look good.
I go for skin of chicken cooked in any style, usually roasted/baked, stir-fried :) Fried ones will be an occasional treat.
❤️🍗😘 Monday lunches are the best!
@coboypb: hurhurhur. baked can be pretty tasty!
