Along with the tubs of butter chicken, we were also gifted a tub of mac & cheese from Baba Masala. They call it ‘Mac Baba’. That went into the freezer too. It came in useful on a long day on calls and we didn’t have dinner plans. The mac & cheese was thawed out, and it helped trigger ideas for dinner.
Heated up the tub in the oven. It was still nicely brown and crisp at the top. While cheese used werent’t overly exciting (i.e. not pungent), the tub held slices of chicken sausages! I was tickled. Baba Masala’s food and its way of cooking reminds me of those old school cafes at the Tanglin Club, SICC, Swimming Club, SRC and the now-defunct Pines/Pinetree Club. Those were the types of comfort food and venues that the family turned to when dining out in order to cater to different people’s preferences. These club memberships are now passé (to me) since I don’t play golf and I don’t find fulfillment in paying membership dues for nothing I would enjoy doing at these premises.
I could just have mac & cheese as a main, but the man couldn't. That would just be a side for him. He needed a lot more protein that doesn't come from cheese, because fats. So it was an opportunity to try Grammi’s menu. Ordered a chunk of braised lamb shank wih spiced carrots, and a side of balsamic zucchini. The delivery arrived in record time. I placed the order and paid up at 6.20pm, the confirmation email arrived within minutes, and the bag of food arrived at 7.10pm. There, dinner nicely sorted.
I was done with work at 7pm. The man emerged from the study at 8pm. He didn’t even know what I ordered. He was just relieved that he didn’t need to think about dinner, and the dog had her evening walk done. He was pleased that he had additional protein as he hadn’t had lamb shank for a while. I like lamb chops, but I’m not a fan of braised lamb shank, so the man happily ate all of it. He was thrilled to find a sizeable length of marrow in the bone, and slurpped it up. Hahahaha.
