The Man's 46th

The man turns 46 today. We didn't bother with fancy meals or hop on the staycation wagon. A staycation (with the dog) was too complicated, and it wouldn't exactly be enjoyable. He cleared some leave accumulated from last year (yup, that be many us with loads of days off and nowhere to go), chilled out at home, and enjoyed an unhurried long weekend.

What the man did, was to spend loads of time re-watching 'Lost' (all six seasons), play on the guitars, popped in to the gym, and took the happy dog for long walks out at the parks. Today is going to be similarly spent. There were still some pressing work matters that demanded his attention, but he refused to answer too many emails or get on more than three essential calls. Also, the government gave him a nice present by way of giving him two firm dates for his COVID-19 vaccine shots.

Over the weekend, this derelict wife didn't book a meal at a fancy restaurant for him. He said he didn't want anything fancy. No big group dinners, not even if we adhere to the maximum of eight at a restaurant or at home. Okay. We just went with the flow then. We didn't even have a firm schedule of weekend to-dos. Separated out all the heavy meals. On Friday night, I lucked out with an impromptu 8.15pm reservation at Cavemen

We weren't going to eat a ton of stuff, so we went for lighter dishes — a grilled fish and two salads. A lovely potato salad, and a tomato salad hit a spot. We also had a platter of cheese. Mmmmm. What a satisfying dinner. The seabass was a nicely filleted, simply grilled with salt and pepper, and it was so beautiful. (Cavemen currently gets its seafood from Ah Hua Kelong.) So I bought him this dinner that he was very happy with. Protein (that wasn't an overly rich piece of beef or lamb) + tasty vegetables. Didn't even go overboard on the alcohol. A light gin (a Kyoto Dry 'Ki No Bi') and tonic accompanied the meal.

Happy Birthday, dear husband. I wish you loads of laughter as you cruise through clean+presses, burpees, kettlebells and such. Watch your core so that you stay injury-free and keep sarcopenia at bay. I suppose... you'll keep on leaving dirty clothes right outside of the laundry basket eh?
