Sake at Miraku

Found a night to step in for dinner at Miraku with the man. Persuaded him to ditch the car to take a cab for the night. It was a long day of frustrating calls for him and he wanted some good food and nice sake. If we were gonna be drinking, he really shouldn't drive.

Luckily we cabbed. We really drank quite a bit. Although we offered drinks to the chefs too, they weren't going to finish our bottles for us. Hahaha. (Not like the way you-know-who-sushi-chef would.) In 2.5 hours, we polished off two 720ml bottles of sake. And two glasses of champagne from a birthday boy in the house. 👀

Dinner infinitely feels more fun because the restaurant only does one seating at any time. There isn't a hurry to turnover seats, and we could take our time with our food and conversation. We could also drink a lot more than we normally would at lunch. Hahaha. Succumbed to a bottle that sold us spring and cherry blossoms — had a junmai daiginjo from Hatsumago (初孫美咲きもと純米大吟醸酒). It was nice bottle to start the meal with. When the grilled food arrived, we moved on to a delicious bottle from Katusyama (勝山 戦勝政宗(せんしょうまさむね)純米大吟醸).

The man opted for the 'chef's omakase' which offered more seasonal appetizers, sashimi and five types of nigiri sushi, and also included cooked and grilled items. Lovely pieces of seared halibut were served. There was a bowl of thinly sliced wagyu with runny egg (you could swop the beef out for toro); it's so simple and crazy delicious. He also had a cute bowl of uni and snow crab in kelp jus

I stuck to my dependable 'sushi omakase' which offered the menu's standard of 11 types of sushi, along with the usual appetizers and soup. I skipped all the tuna and shellfish, save for a rather fun appetizer of a dollop of minced tuna on a beetroot crisp. I had two pieces of the nicely cured sayori (針魚) sushi. 11 pieces of sushi are super manageable when the chef goes easy on the rice, and everything else comes in bite-sized portions.

It's not often that I can afford that two to three hours in the nights for such a long meal, so I would have to rotate around the restaurants visited, and time apportioned to the dear friends I want to see. I would love to do dinners more often at Miraku, but I can't. So it would have to be mostly lunches.

I've never bought these in Singapore! Thanks for revealing where to get them. I shall buy them from Don Don to try!

For April 16's Choya post:
Poor Choya. I'm afraid O is growing to be like Choya during a thunderstorm too. She was oblivious to it as a puppy. Then she grew to become anxious and used to have to hide under the bed during thunderstorms. Now, she's temporarily residing with our relatives. We were told during thunderstorms, she climbs up onto the bed for comfort, like Choya did. Just that.... she's much much much lighter than Choya, stepping on the humans in bed. ;D hahaha

I hope the supplies coming in are still good! Season’s ending soon! I also buy from momobud.sg

Acck, O too? As long as she knows where to hide and seek comfort, that’s still not too bad! Choya just got her thundershirt. Let’s see if it works.
